Roxton Nursing Home

About Us

Roxton Nursing Home's Philosophy is based around individualising care and promoting independence whilst maintaining a homely rather than institutionalised environment. We achieve this by putting in place a number of core things:

Person - Centered Care

We take the time to get to know a resident - their history, likes and dislikes - in order to build up a picture of them. Once we get to know a person we can work with them to design care and support around their needs so that they remain firmly in charge of everything - we call this person-centered care.

Dining

Meals are an important part of our day; all our menus are nutritionally checked and our food is freshly prepared. The food is so good that our residents usually put on a bit of weight!

Social Life and Leisure

We believe that social and leisure aspects of life are an integral part of care, which should be all about achieving maximum independence and helping people to have some fun! There are a wide range of activities aimed at providing stimulation, enjoyment and exercise for all. There is an activities board that shows the daily program, available for residents and their families to see.

Pleasant Environment

We continually invest in property not only to ensure high standards of maintenance but also to provide a pleasant, homely and stimulating environment.

Our Rooms

Roxton has 21 single rooms and 12 shared, of which five is en-suite. This range of rooms allows us to cater for the preferences of a wide range of people, including partners or married couples.

We have three lounges and a reception that is also used as a quiet room for residents who need a little time on their own without going to their own rooms. We are in the process of increasing the number of single rooms and converting some of the rooms into en-suite. Our bed rooms are fully furnished but residents may bring their own chair, single bed, small items of furniture, pictures or ornaments. Working together, we are sure that we can make the room as comfortable and familiar as possible. On request we may be able to redecorate a room to a resident's favourite colour or style, please do discuss all options with us.

Our rooms are fully accessible for even the most immobile residents – with two passenger lifts and two stair lifts provided.

Our Staff

Roxton always has at least two qualified nurses on duty during the day. Their primary role is to ensure that residents receive appropriate nursing care. Care assistants carry out many of the day to day tasks, helping residents to cope with daily activities The rest of the team includes care assistants (more than two thirds have NVQ qualifications) domestics, kitchen staff, secretary, the handyman and the administrator. We are proud of the high level of training that they receive.

Domestic staff are on duty daily to provide a clean home at all times, free from dirt and odours. Our kitchen staff provide meals and snacks throughout the day.

We encourage all our staff to participate in courses relating to the care of older people. All of our care staff work towards an NVQ in caring. By gaining these qualifications all staff are trained to provide a high quality of care. Two qualified nurses have a qualification in care of the elderly, four are trained assessors and one has undertaken specialist training in tissue viability.

We regularly support staff to undertake additional studies or training, ensuring that we can continuously develop the standards of care provided.
